Comments on Site Design

I have some hopefully constrictive criticism regarding the drupal look and feel. I'm being my web designer nit-picky :)

  1. The menu items in the top navigation run together visually. This is a styled list, which is great. Adding some graphical separation like different background colors or horizontal bars would help.
  2. The colors and font sizes are not consistent.
    • There are at least four different values of green on most pages. Looks "unprofessional."
    • There are also three values at least of yellow. I would also choose a darker shade of yellow for the headings. The current very light, cream, almost flourescent yellow really pulls on the eye and draws attention away from the content.
    • The font size and color of my name (after login) should be consistent with the font for the nearest header (looks like h2).
    • The colors used in the events calendar should be consistent with the rest of the color palette. The blues and pinks throw the page off.
    • The calendar's highlighted day has poor contrast against its background color and is thus difficult to read.
    • The white color of the Who's Online text at the bottom has very poor contrast against the bright yellow background and is almost impossible to read.
  3. Layout: Looking just here at the "Submit forum topic" page, the 2nd level header that says "Submit forum topic" should be aligned at the same height as the left nav and events blocks. There should be a little more margin between the bordered blocks for the "Events," "Active forum topics," and "GPUS News."
  4. Content:
    • Unless blogs are going to be a central part of our content, I would eliminate it from the top nav menu.
    • I'd like to suggest a top nav item of "Get Involved" and certainly links to county parties
